THE HISTORICAL GRANARIES AND A HALF-TIMBER HOUSE AT THE CHURCH SQUARE

The half-timbered houses which are situated to the north and the south of the church were presumably used as granary from farm Halstenbeck during earlier decades. Up to now the half round of the buildings indicates the former church square castle; a typical characteristic for many church squares in the region. The former granaries are nowadays used as residence or commercial buildings. Especially well-known is the half-timbered house from ‘Meyer-Hermann’ in which today the restaurant ‘Emils Wirtshaus’, and prior to that ‘Alte Schenke’, is located. It is now run by the 5th generation of the family ‘Siekendiek’. With the reputation of a gourmet restaurant it is also appreciated and popular outside of Versmold. Yearly, guests are coming to Versmold, because of the restaurant. However, also the citizens of Versmold and Bockhorst really appreciate this special restaurant.
