IMPERIAL POST OFFICE

Until the late 19th century Versmold did not have an adequately qualified post office. The respective travel agents sorted the mail transactions incidentally in private rooms. However, the rapid industrialisation of the city - connected to the development of proper traffic for the region by a dense railway network - let a private post office finally become necessary. It was built in 1890 by a private person (Friedrich Richter) and then rented to the Imperial Post. Since 1994, the former ‘Imperial Post’ serves as a much-frequented public library.
