SINGER HALL (VILLA) IN THE CITY PARK
One particular story can be told about the so-called ‘Villa’ in the city park. The building may be regarded as an architectural jewel. In 1913 the villa was built as a nine by four meters wide and open porch building in neoclassical style, for the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the citizen choral society. It was built in front of an existing garden house from the 19th century. The project was funded by a grant from former bailiff Mr Graßhoff who happened to celebrate his 25th anniversary of service in the same year. To honour his donation, a granite slab was installed which describes the cause for the building of the house: ‘This hall is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the citizens choral society and built by Mr Major Grasshof on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as a bailiff of Versmold in 1913’.
